By a vote of 23-22, the combined New Hampshire House Ways and Means and Finance Committees opposed legalizing a casino, as proposed in a Senate bill.
The bill, which would have authorized one casino with 5,000 slot machines and 150 table games, now goes to the full 400-member House for action.
Before the vote to kill the bill was taken, a total of 17 amendments were filed to amend the Senate-approved bill. The committee elected to vote on the major proposal without taking up the amendments.
Supporters vowed a major battle on the House floor.
