Everett casino cause of Wynn and Menino dispute

Aug 26, 2013 6:04 PM

Steve Wynn’s plan for a casino in Everett, Massachusetts, has upset Boston Mayor Tom Menino, the city’s longest sitting chief executive.

Menino, who favors awarding the area’s only casino license to the operators of Suffolk Downs in East Boston, alleges Wynn’s Everett plans actually involve some land in the city of Boston. If that is so, Boston, or better still, Menino, would have a say in the Everett development.

The two have been haggling for months and this has upset Gambling Commission Chairman Stephen Crosby.

Crosby has urged both to end the dispute because it “makes everything look disorganized or suspect or political” and reflects poorly on the casino license process in Massachusetts.
