Dan Gilbert, founder of mortgage lender Quicken Loans and owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, drew the concern of the Michigan gaming regulators recently and was forced to have a political donation returned.
Unaware casino owners were barred by law from making donations to state or local politicians, Gilbert donated $80,000 to a super PAC that supported Detroit mayoral candidate Mike Duggan.
He asked that the money be returned after receiving a complaint from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.
Gilbert owns the Greektown Casino-Hotel in downtown Detroit.
