Casino giant MGM Resorts International and a development partner, entertainment company AEG, are providing a first glimpse of renderings for a 20,000-seat indoor arena planned for the Las Vegas Strip.
A statement released Tuesday with images says project manager ICON Venue Group expects to break ground on the $350 million arena next April.
The facility will be privately financed and is expected to open by spring 2016 for concerts, boxing, mixed martial arts, award shows and other events.
Planners also hope to lure professional basketball and hockey teams, but no commitments have been announced.
The renderings show a sweeping 12-plus story glass and steel structure with a light-emitting display on more than 5 acres between MGM Resorts’ New York-New York and Monte Carlo resorts and the Interstate 15 freeway.
