Illinois lawmakers will be asked to extend the law permitting Internet wagering on horse races, a current law that expires in January.

Industry spokesmen indicated that without the funds generated by the Internet bets, Illinois racetracks would be hard pressed to continue operating their current schedules.

Both racetrack officials and representatives of racing participants have come out in support of the legislation.
