Anti-gambling groups join forces in New Hampshire

While New Hampshire awaits the results of a gambling study committee, two anti-gambling groups are joining forces to fight efforts to legalize casinos.

The Granite State Coalition Against Expanded Gambling and Casino Free New Hampshire announced last week they will be led by prominent business and legislative leaders in their casino-free efforts.

They were identified as prominent Republican businessman Steve Duprey and former Democratic state Sen. Harold Janeway.

“The issue of casino gambling is back,” said Janeway. “When we put it down last spring, we thought it would come back, but not so soon.”

Actually, the issue was brought forth by Gov. Maggie Hassan, who established the study committee whose task is to come forward with recommendations on just how casinos would be established and regulated.

The committee’s report is due this week.
