New Jersey investigators say one or more people used “a significant number of counterfeit chips” at an Atlantic City poker tournament, and have canceled the tainted match.
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement on Saturday canceled the first event of the Borgata Winter Poker Open.
The state had suspended the game Friday after suspicions about the use of fake chips arose.
Investigators have confirmed one or more people used fake chips in the match, and have ordered all prize money to be frozen until the probe is completed.
Borgata President Tom Balance tells The Associated Press the casino has examined all its remaining poker chips, which were cleared for use in the tournament’s other games. They will go on as scheduled.
