Kentucky launches new effort to permit casinos

Casino supporters in Kentucky have launched a new effort to permit the state’s voters to decide by referendum whether they want to amend the state constitution and permit casinos.

It seems to happen every year and it consistently has been defeated by the state’s lawmakers.

The main reason for proposing casino gambling, said a major sponsor, was the state’s ongoing budget problems.

“We have to have a revenue source, and this is the best and easiest way to do it,” said Rep. Larry Clark of Louisville.
