Pennsylvania lawmakers passed a law, just prior to Sunday’s Super Bowl, that they thought would legalize small betting pools sponsored by charitable and volunteer clubs in the state.
But, State Police officials disagreed.
Commissioner Frank Noonan said such pool wagering gimmicks were still illegal. However, he modified his comments by saying such activities were not considered a major enforcement priority and “if” state police officers found such activity then citations would be issued.
There were no reports of any citations following Sunday’s game.
