Tourism was strong in 2013, officials say, but the final number failed to surpass the record set a year earlier.

According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the area drew 39.67 million visitors last year, a shade under the 39.73 million reported in 2012.

Casino revenues reached $9.7 billion, an increase of 2.9 percent over the previous year.

Revenues reportedly were 4.8 percent higher on the Las Vegas Strip but were down 1.6 percent in downtown Las Vegas.
