Despite long-standing opposition from Atlantic City casino operators, as well as Gov. Chris Christie and other prominent politicans, the Meadowlands racetrack in northern New Jersey is being supported for a casino license.
An editorial in the Bergen County Record newspaper calls for a casino license to be authorized for the racetrack that sits less than 15 minutes from New York City’s Times Square.
“The Record’s support of a casino in the Meadowlands is an acknowledgement that lost gambling revenue is needed to fund valued programs in New Jersey,” the editorial read in part.
The editorial appeared in the newspaper’s online arm. It notes the failure of Atlantic City’s revival, even with a casino gambling monopoly. Atlantic City is in the midst of a five-year revival plan approved by Gov. Christie.
