A petition drive to place before the voters in November the opportunity to decide whether Massachusetts should permit casino gambling is being supported by Charlie Baker, a Republican candidate for governor.
The law permitting the creation of three casinos and one slots emporium in the Commonwealth was approved by the lawmakers but was never voted on state-wide. A group of anti-casino people has been gathering signatures to place the item on the November ballot.
Baker, the former Harvard Pilgrim Health Care CEO, also supports the state seeking a waiver from the current Obamacare health law.
