Sands China, the Asian operating unit of Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS), reported its 2013 profit surged 79.2 percent. It declared an interim dividend of $0.112 per share and a special dividend of $0.099 per share to be paid on Feb. 26.

Although American casino and Entertainment Properties was not officially announcing its quarterly financial experience, the company did say it expected to report a 1 percent decline in revenue to $78.3 million and a net loss of $2.8 million. The official figures will be announced at a later date.

SJM Holdings Ltd., Macau’s largest gaming company, says it will spend $3.9 billion to build its first resort in Macau’s Cotai area. Construction of the Lisboa Palace began last week. This is the company formed by the former gaming mogul, Stanley Ho.

MGM Resorts International (MGM) says it is installing 26 car charging stations at nine Las Vegas casinos, and at its corporate offices. The stations will be offered free of charge.

Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord, whose campaign for governor received $57,000 from lawyers and lobbyists representing gaming interests, announced he would not participate in the discussions about a second Philadelphia casino.

The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe says it has entered the final stage of its federal land-in-trust request for a proposed casino in Taunton, Mass.

The new owners of John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada, have begun a $50 million renovation project at the facility.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Mike Merriweather has settled a federal lawsuit in which he claimed he was fired from The Meadows Racetrack & Casino because of his race. The racino is owned by a division of Cannery Hotels of Las Vegas.
