Efforts to have the state of Illinois join others that have approved gambling over the Internet are expected to receive strong opposition, officials indicated last week.
Leading the support is Chicago Democrat Sen. John Cullerton who noted at a public hearing that “people are already gambling, and we’re not making any of the money.”
However, he agreed the proposal will receive “stiff opposition.”
Some lawmakers say they are concerned Internet gambling might adversely affect the state’s licensed casinos.
