People in the area call it “The Boat.” But, that designation won’t be accurate come the end of the year. Harrah’s Metropolis Casino in Metropolis, Illinois, will be converted from a riverboat to a land-based casino in the existing convention center.
The change was approved by the Illinois State Gaming Board last week.
In 1992, when it was opened originally, the City of Metropolis received about $800,000 a month in revenue. However, with the expansion of gambling in the country, city revenues have dropped significantly.
Officials hope by converting the facility to a more accessible building players will find the new location exciting.
