Online sales of lottery tickets may be OK in other states but not in Massachusetts. That’s the warning issued by Attorney General Martha Coackley.
“I feel strongly that it is not a good idea for consumers,” she was quoted as saying. “It’s not a good idea for Massachusetts.”
Coakley said buying lottery tickets on the Internet would require the use of credit cards. She noted the use of credit cards to buy lottery tickets has long been barred in the Commonwealth out of fear it would lure problem gamblers into crushing personal debt.
She also warned there are difficulties in verifying the age of online gamblers.
