Funeral services set for Vegas pioneer Jackie Gaughan

Funeral services for John “Jackie” Gaughan, 93, who passed away Wednesday, have been set.

A viewing will be held for the gambling pioneer, who was instrumental in the growth of downtown Las Vegas, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main Street.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Viator Catholic Community Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road, on the corner of Eastern Ave.

On Tuesday, the El Cortez hotel/casino will hold a celebration of Gaughan’s life at 2 p.m. in the Parlour Bar. The memorial, open to the public, will include champagne and cake.

Gaughan, a native of Omaha, Neb., will be interred at Omaha’s Calvary Cemetery with his late wife, Roberta Mae “Bertie” Gaughan, and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bishop Gorman High School.
