Owners of Scarborough Downs in Maine feel they now have their best hope of gaining a casino license with legislation recently approved by the state House of Representatives.
The bill requires that the facility have a hotel, swimming pool and a restaurant before slot machines can be introduced. Most importantly, the gaming expansion must be approved by the voters of Scarborough.
Previously, when the matter was before the voters, it was rejected.
