Data from the Online Gaming Observatory, a study group created by the Polytechnic University of Milan, shows that in 2016 Italy became the second biggest online betting community in Europe.
Two kinds of games monopolized the overall online action in Italy, casino game activity and sports betting, according to the analysis. Sports betting alone saw a 25% increase in spending. Casino games reached $464 million with a 43% market share, while sports betting reached $370 million.
The growth of online gambling caused Italy to become the EU's second biggest market, trailing only the United Kingdom.
