Large rainfall amounts recently in South Florida have delayed the opening of Kings Court jai-alai and poker room in Florida City. The first jai-alai match was set for Sunday to meet a state deadline for activating a pari-mutuel permit. However, it was postponed and now been rescheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 16.
Jai-alai must run for one day before the poker room opens, so cards are expected to be in the air on Monday, June 17.
Kings Court director of pari-mutuel operations Milt Roth told the Miami Herald the state is “very understanding” and the challenge is to complete the parking lot paving.
The Brunetti family, owners of Hialeah Park, also own Kings Court.
