In the United Kingdom, the online gambling industry could be soon facing new restrictions after a competition watchdog has accused gambling site operators of unfair customer treatment and potentially breaking consumer law.
No specific companies were named in the report.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said people were not getting the deal as advertised from sign-up promotions and site operators were unfairly holding on to customers’ money.
The CMA said it was taking action against “a number of operators” suspected of breaking UK statutes and would use its powers to end any illegal activities.
The CMA has conducted an eight-month investigation into the £4.5b wagering sector, working with the Gambling Commission, which regulates the industry.
