Resorts World Bimini management has temporarily closed the high-end casino/resort in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, telling media outlets the extensive damage to the property's marina is too “big a blow” to address while still open.
Thursday, executives of both the resort and its development company said an immediate return to full operation was their main focus, but admitted issues being examined could result in a longer closure period.
Missy Lawrence, Resorts World Bimini president, in an interview, suggested the resort could re-open as early as Sept. 27, but indicated that deadline depends on the resort’s ability to overcome “a lot of hurdles” in the interim.
Resorts World Bimini is just 50 miles due east off the coast of Miami in the Bahamas. It’s a luxury beachfront resort spanning approximately half the intimate island of Bimini.
