Indiana Republican legislator Alan Morrison says he will sponsor legislation to make sports betting legal if the U.S. Supreme Court rules in favor of New Jersey in Christie v NCAA, reports the Associated Press.
A decision in the case is expected in the spring of 2018, and could remove the federal ban on single-team sports wagering.
Indiana now joins numerous other states considering or soon to consider legal revisions to allow Nevada-style sports betting.
“There are a lot of states that are going to jump on this,” predicted I. Nelson Rose, an international expert on gambling law from Whittier Law School in Southern California. Numerous legislative observers believe the states will move quickly to access the tax revenue sports betting would generate.
