In the United Kingdom, game developer Scientific Games has come under attack for some of its social casino gaming products.

The Guardian, a British newspaper with a generally anti-gambling opinion, contends that the company’s gaming apps available for play across social networks appeal to children because they are themed around cartoon characters such as Rapunzel and the Flintstones. Other slot themes have also been called unacceptable.

The newspaper has expressed concern because the games are available for non-wagering play by minors on Facebook.

Tom Watson, Deputy Leader for the Labour Party, said that he condemns the use of themes that attract and appeal to underage consumers and urged social media networks to take action.
