The Adelson Family Foundation is continuing its unprecedented efforts to assist in recovery efforts in Macau from Typhoon Hato by awarding more than $1.9 million (US) this week to the University of Saint Joseph.
Typhoon Hato and subsequent storms caused major damage to its new campus in August and September.
Executives from Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Sands China Ltd. presented a ceremonial check Tuesday to Fr. Peter Stilwell, rector of the University of Saint Joseph, on behalf of the Adelson Family Foundation and its founders.
The Adelson Family Foundation donation will go toward addressing a number of critical areas of need at the university, among them its library where a large number of books in storage on the basement level, with an estimated valued at approximately $1 million (US) were tragically and irrevocably damaged.
The University of Saint Joseph is a university founded in 1996, and previously known as Macau Inter-University Institute. The Catholic University of Portugal and the Diocese of Macau jointly organized the multi- dimensional school.
