Major hospitality company Delaware North is expanding in West Virginia with the purchase of Mardi Gras Casino and Resort in Nitro. The facility also includes a greyhound racetrack.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The sales agreement transferring the property from Hartman & Tyner to Delaware North awaits approval by the West Virginia Racing Commission and the West Virginia Lottery Commission.

Delaware North currently owns the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack in Wheeling, along with gambling and entertainment venues in New York, Illinois, Florida, Arizona, Arkansas and Ohio, where Miami Valley Gaming between Dayton and Cincinnati opened in 2013.

Nitro is about 130 miles southwest of Wheeling. West Virginia gambling establishments have been negatively impacted in recent years by expanded gambling opportunities in nearby Pennsylvania, Maryland and Ohio.
