Horseplayers sent in the cash with both hands this weekend at Gulfstream Park near Miami setting a North American Pick 6 wagering record Sunday, following Saturday’s surpassing of last years Pegasus World Cup Day handle by 3.8 percent.
The scheduled 20-cent Rainbow 6 mandatory payout produced a payoff of $15,566.10 to multiple ticketholders with all six winners.
Gulfstream Park announced a $19,779,235 total handle for the sequence, besting the Pick 6 pool record of $15,285,707 set March 26, 2016, when a carryover of $4.5 million was at stake.
A total of $15,788,224 was wagered into the Rainbow 6 Sunday, eclipsing the $10,782,375 wagered at Gulfstream on March 26, 2016.
A jackpot carryover of $3,991,011 was created when, after 39 consecutive programs, there was no single ticket-winner.
Just the day before, the $16 million Pegasus World Cup, including all horizontal wagers ending in the race, produced $16.4 million in pari-mutuel handle, up 3.8 percent compared with wagering of $15.8 million last year.
Horse of the Year Gun Runner was victorious in the race that featured the top five finishers from last November’s Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar.
