Ross completely benevolent in final Wynn performance

March is known as a windy month and began true to form in Las Vegas. But before moving ahead (don’t forget to move your clocks ahead Saturday before going to bed) I must revisit Diana Ross’ next to last show at Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas as she did something very different.

After her last song she exited the stage and I thought the show was over. But it wasn’t! Diana came back out (in a simple navy and black long sheath gown) and did a friendly question and answer session with the audience. Most iconic stars would stay away from this type of interaction.

She also introduced her youngest brother Chico, who sat in the row in front of us.

Diana answered all sorts of questions, including how was she able to mix her career and tours with raising her children. She is a firm family believer and said she always gave them love and understanding while making extra time for whatever was necessary in their upbringing. I think she did a terrific job!

She then introduced her perfume line – Diana Diamond. A few lucky audience members got samples in those pretty bags we used to get at openings and events.

It was a simply incredible and amazing evening. She has not lost a bit of her glamour and her voice is still octaves high and low. She is a totally awesome lady. I love Diana Ross!

Point of return

The South Point will be featuring Tower of Power this weekend, March 9-11. This horn-based group brings a fresh upbeat groove to their soul and funk that is enjoyable to multi-generational audiences.

Frankie Moreno is on the regular showroom bill every Thursday this month at 8 p.m., bringing his Rat Pack glamour and classic hits. On Saturdays at 10 p.m., you can catch the Spazmatics, who will take you on a trip back to the 80’s playing all the favorite hits from that era.

The versatile Wes Winters holds court in the Grandview Lounge on Fridays and Saturdays, beginning at 6 p.m. The late night crowd can get their laughs from the stand-up comedy of The Dirty at 12:30. (Yes, that means they come on at 12:30 a.m.)

Yes, indeed, South Point is ramping-up its entertainment lineup.

SLS goes country

The Foundry at the SLS Las Vegas is showing a flare for country music. William Michael Morgan is set to play on Friday, March 30. His is a family friendly show that appeals to all audiences of all ages.

Following him will be Devin Dawson on Friday, April 13 and Carly Pearce, on Friday, April 27.

It is interesting that all these shows are geared to the whole family, meaning you won’t have to blush, or leave the youngsters at home as they are welcome to see these shows too! That’s a big welcome sign for many families who live here or are visiting our town.

Just smashing!

Smashing Pumpkins is making a tour stop at T-Mobile Arena on Sept. 2, and will rock the rafters with their alternative rock sound that is part Gothic, part psychedelic and part heavy metal. As you probably know, this show is on Labor Day weekend, so take a tip from Monti – if you want to see this show get your tickets now. It will definitely be a sell-out.

Order Pink Martini

The Smith Center continues to be an amazing entertainment venue, bringing a tremendous variety of shows throughout the year. For instance, this past week the Las Vegas Philharmonic performed their Pink Martini Gala concert. If you have never caught our very own philharmonic, shame on you! They are quite sensational and give this glitzy town some real cultural backbone.

Tonight, The Ten Tenors will be at Reynolds Hall to amaze the audience with their stratospheric voices. They will highlight music legends such as David Bowie, Prince, Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, John Lennon and more.

On Saturday, March 17, Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild Live will be an unforgettable experience for both young and old. And on March 30 the one and only great singer and pianist Michael Feinstein will dazzle along with his special guest Liza Minnelli. The one and only Liza! My heart belongs to her.

Still Golden

In closing, I want to say hurray to the Golden Knights on their incredible first year in the NHL! They are a Las Vegas miracle, taking this desert town to the icy realms of a real NHL town. I see their jerseys on the backs of so many people of all ages. Hail to thee, Golden Knights!

Monti Rock III and Zozo the wonder dog wish you a happy start to March and the promise of Spring!
