The political associate of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Komeito, is advocating that the number of initial casino licenses issued by the government should be limited to three.
Most major U.S. casino/resort companies including MGM Resorts, International, Las Vegas Sands, Caesars, Hard Rock and others, have all expressed a desire to build and operate integrated resorts in the country.
According to Bloomberg, the comments were part of an interview in Tokyo with the head of head of Komeito’s casino panel. It was also suggested that more licenses could be awarded at a later date if the integrated casino/resort experiment proves successful.
The discussion in Japan over what the country’s impending casino legislation might look like has increased recently as the LDP prepares to introduce its formal implementation plan to lawmakers in the next few months.
