A key executive at the under construction Wynn Resorts casino near Boston have told local media they are "absolutely" considering renaming the property.
President of the Everett, Mass. casino/resort Robert DeSalvio said, "We are absolutely considering a rebranding of the project, and we'll have an announcement on that at a later date." DeSalvio’s remarks followed a Massachusetts Gaming Commission hearing earlier this week.
Steve Wynn recently stepped down as CEO of the company and sold his significant stake in the business after charges of improper conduct towards employees surfaced. Wynn, 76, has forcefully denied the allegations.
Executives at Wynn Resorts had previously downplayed calls for a name change, saying doing so would have deep ramifications for the business. Wynn, whose signature is currently the company’s logo, was seen as so vital to the business that the prospect of his departure had been listed as a possible risk in official Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
Wynn Boston Harbor, the current name of the $2.4 billion project, is expected to open in June of 2019.
