Derek Stevens, a major force in the rebirth of downtown Las Vegas, has announced a planned 777-room hotel and casino along the Fremont Street Experience.
It’s the first totally new construction project in decades for the heart of the downtown area. The construction site is the former home of Las Vegas Club, Mermaids casinos and Glitter Gulch strip club, which were razed to make way for the new project, according to preliminary plans.
The new casino/resort joins The Fremont Street Experience’s scheduled $33 million overhaul of its canopy LED display in the historic area’s recent reimaging initiative.
The flamboyant and enthusiastic Stevens, 49, is a Michigan native and unabashed supporter of the Detroit area and its sports teams. Stevens, along with his brother, Greg, also owns the D Las Vegas and the Golden Gate, both located in downtown Las Vegas.
