Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts has chosen a Charlestown, Mass.-based custom luxury yacht builder to construct three “European-style, low-profile motor yachts” to transport passengers to and from its $2.5 billion Encore Boston Harbor gaming resort in Everett.
The casino/resort is expected to open in June 2019. Encore Boston Harbor is the re-named Wynn Boston Harbor resort.
The 41-foot yachts, to be built by Boston BoatWorks, will accommodate 40 passengers each and will cost $3 million to build. The water shuttle will run daily from the Everett gaming resort to stops in Boston’s Seaport and Financial districts, though specific locations, fares and schedules remain undetermined.
Robert DeSalvio, president of Encore Boston Harbor, said in a statement that the yachts would transform a “stressful and frustrating commute into a luxurious and relaxing experience.”
He added, “The Encore Water Shuttle could revolutionize the use of Boston Harbor as a preferred and popular commuter pathway. Imagine boarding a shuttle at the Seaport and Financial Districts in Boston and docking at our resort in Everett in 20 minutes, rain or shine, with a guarantee of no traffic or parking issues.”
The casino/resort’s name change was prompted by sexual harassment allegations against former CEO Steve Wynn. Wynn, 76, stepped down from the company he co-founded and sold his holdings in February. He has strongly denied the accusations.
