It's beginning to look like CFB, but there's plenty of MLB to play

It’s beginning to look a lot like CFB, but there's still plenty of MLB to bet on.

For those of us in Vegas, that’s means there’s a feeling in the air that’s almost equivalent to a certain holiday season, where there’s hustle and bustle and lots of good cheer.

Although, I’m never one to stop watching Major League Baseball until that last game in October, I must admit that I’ve become a college football addict, and there’s no remedy (nor am I looking for one) in sight.

So while I’m thinking about which MLB game to bet on, I’m also doing my homework on the upcoming Penn State matchup with Akron scheduled for Sept. 2. It’s will be fun paying attention to the debut of the 2017 season.  Some interesting facts worth noting:

• Akron is 5-2 ATS in its last 7 games.

• Akron is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games.

• Akron is 6-16 SU in its last 22 games.

• The total has gone UNDER in 16 of Akron's last 20 games.

• Penn State is 16-7 SU in its last 23 games.

• The total has gone OVER in 15 of Penn State's last 21 games.

• Penn State is 9-4 ATS in its last 13 games at home.

• Penn State is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games at home.

I pay attention to those who pay even more attention to college football.  If you’re thinking of betting this game, you’ll want to consider the stats. They tell us that this game can go either way but it might be time for the Nittany Lions to shine brightly.

Penn State scored at least 38 points in their last five games, including a 39-0 victory against woeful Rutgers. PSU won four of their last five games. The one loss was a 52-49 thriller to USC in the Rose Bowl.  Akron on the other hand has lost four of its last five and consistently scored below 50 points.  In fact, in one of those games was a 9-3 loss to Ohio U.

If you check in with ESPN’s site, and look at the matchup predictor, you’ll see that Penn State’s got the edge by a whopping 98.2%!  Penn State in some place is a 35-point favorite, and while it’s always ‘iffy’ to bet on the first week of college football, and base things on a prior season, PSU is likely to be fired up for the opener.

One thing they are unlikely to do is disappoint their home crowd.  I would consider taking Penn State, even with that big of a margin.  That being said, it’s still baseball and if you were looking for a game to bet on Thursday, I would consider taking a look at the Detroit- Seattle game that opened at 9 climbed to 9.5 late Wednesday

As of now, I would side with the Mariners, and consider the total runs being too close to call. It might be a one sided matchup, or a game that’s ends somewhere around 5-4 with Mariners on top.
