Poinsettia Bowl

Utah vs. California -3 (Total 52½ ): Like yesterday’s Las Vegas Bowl, we find a Mountain West Conference team squared off against a Pac 10 squad. As a lukewarm 3-point favorite, California can’t help but feel disappointed in their season. They started off with high expectations of competing for a Pac-10 title at 3-0, but blowout losses to USC and Oregon brought them back to earth. They ended up losing two more conference games (Oregon State and Washington), and find themselves in San Diego. Utah might also be a little disappointed in its season, even though they finished 9-3, they’re coming off that great 13-0 run last year, which culminated in a huge win over Alabama in last year’s Sugar Bowl. They had to replace a lot of players (mostly on offense), so they actually did well to win nine games. Of course, the Utes can’t be happy with a season-ending loss to in-state rival BYU, and their blowout loss to TCU was their only other conference loss. Nonetheless, we’re backing the Utes here. They’ve played in eight bowl games the last 10 years, and have won all eight. They’ll play hard and could actually win this game by a margin. Utah +3 and OVER 52 ½
