For the second week in a row, the Los Angeles Chargers are the top consensus pick in the 2021 Bookie Battle. After 85% of the pool won with Chargers +1 over the Browns last week, 70% of our bookmakers are taking the field goal in L.A.’s visit to the Ravens in Week 6.

Brandon Staley’s men continue to outperform market expectations, winning and covering three weeks in a row and boasting a stellar 4-1 record, both straight up and against the spread.

As of Friday, Chargers +3 looks like good value, as it’s an important half-point better than the +2.5s on most oddsboards two days before kickoff.

It’s not a particularly great situational spot for either team – L.A. has to make the long trip east for an early kickoff, while Baltimore is coming off an emotional overtime win against the Colts on Monday night.

While the contestants riding the Chargers isn’t surprising, the next two most popular picks are. The Texans and Jaguars have one win this season between them – and that came when Houston beat Jacksonville in their season opener – but the bookmakers are taking the points with these two Week 6 underdogs.

Again, the books are taking advantage of a key half-point of value, with Jags +3.5 against the Dolphins in London. The number is +3 across the market Friday.

Despite just one outright victory, the Texans, catching 10 points in Indianapolis this week, have been a live dog this season, going 3-2 ATS through five weeks.

After the Chargers, Jags, and Texans, four teams are tied with 59.5% of Bookies Battle sentiment.

Tallying ‘Em Up

Week 5 was an excellent one for the contestants (not so much for their places of employment), as consensus picks went 12-4. Brad Carpenter from DraftKings led the way with 13 winners.

In the Bookies Battle standings, Max Schmerin from Rivers Casino Pittsburgh cut Mike Lewis’ (Suncoast) lead from four games to three, thanks to the Eagles’ squeaking out the cover as 7-point home dogs in a 28-22 loss to the Bucs on Thursday night. Lewis has 51 winners on the season, Schmerin is second with 48, and Nick Smith (Snoqualmie) is third with 47.
