Where’s the Value in Super Bowl 59 Betting?

For bettors looking to get a jump on solid lines nearly one year ahead of Super Bowl 59, Makowitz noted a few core picks that have good value.

“First, with Joe Burrow returning from injury, snagging the (Cincinnati) Bengals at +1200 feels like a high-value proposition. In the same way that people gush about Patrick Mahomes being inevitable, Burrow is that guy as well, and he routinely beat oddsmakers in his last two healthy seasons, going 27-13 against the spread.”

Makowitz also recommends some action on the Dallas Cowboys, who had a solid regular season in 2023-24 but faltered once again in the postseason.

“Despite how easy it is to pile on after another disappointing postseason performance,” he said, “the Cowboys were consistently the second-best team in the NFC this past season, finishing second to the Niners in DVOA and first in the NFL in net yards per drive.”

For value-seeking bettors who don’t mind a riskier proposition, Makowitz gives the nod to the pre-season darling New York Jets. Their hopes were dashed early after Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1. Still, Makowitz said the Jets “will almost certainly benefit from the biggest quarterback improvement year over year.”

What Team Is Trending up for 2024-25?

A critical lesson from the 2023-24 season, Makowitz said, was that “offense reigns supreme in the NFL. A handful of teams — notably the Lions Dolphins, Packers, and Texans — made massive strides thanks to efficient offensive output.”

Those teams, then, could be worth a look for Super Bowl 2025 betting. The best offense may indeed be a good offense, and the NFL’s current up-and-comers are proving the point.

Teams To Avoid in Super Bowl 59 Odds

Makowitz puts this much more diplomatically than I have in this section’s header, calling them “teams that are a couple moves away from being Super Bowl contenders in 2024-25.” No matter how you phrase it, a few teams just don’t look like they can cut it next year, despite some glimmers of hope and potentially advantageous off-season moves.

“Heading into the 2023-24 NFL season, the Jacksonville Jaguars (+3000 at DraftKings) were a trendy pick to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 58, but a late-season collapse kept them out of the playoffs altogether. If the Jags can shore up an offensive line that finished 31st in adjusted offensive line yards, it could help Doug Pederson unlock Trevor Lawrence and a Jaguars’ offense that disappointed this past season.”

Finally, the Pittsburgh Steelers (currently hovering at around +7500 odds for Super Bowl 59) could make a handful of moves to climb up the rankings. They’re still a long shot, but there’s room for growth next year. Here’s Makowitz again:

“This is a fairly complete team minus the quarterback position (pretty important). If the Steelers go out and get Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields, or even a veteran QB that can produce more than Pittsburgh’s near-league-worst quarterback production for new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, they could be serious contenders in the AFC.”

Next year’s Big Game is still a long way off, but the 2025 Super Bowl odds are already on the move. Keep an eye on your favorite team(s) and carefully consider your bets.
