We all want to hit it big and be able to improve our lives with that big win. Today we shall concentrate on the MegaKeno top three progressives – the 10-spot (Mega10) around $2,401,000, the 9-spot, around $310,000 and the 8-spot, around $94,000.

This game at the better pay tables is available in downtown Las Vegas at the El Cortez and Plaza as well as on the Strip at the Excalibur. The game is also available at some other locations, albeit with the lesser pay table for less than progressive hits.

I would always advise playing where you get the higher paybacks as you will hit the lesser pays far more often than the big one.

However, other factors such as location, comps, an event at your hotel, etc., may have you playing elsewhere. The good news is this excellent progressive, run very well by Xpertx out of Reno, gives anyone in the state of Nevada an excellent chance to hit it big.

Let’s look at way tickets for MegaKeno. Please keep in mind most casinos will require play on a separate ticket. Way tickets specifically for MegaKeno can be on the same one. Once you are in your comfortable chair in the keno lounge at the El Cortez, Plaza, or Excalibur, make sure to mark your ticket MK for MegaKeno 5 to 9 spots and M10 for the 10-spot. Otherwise, if you hit all 10 you could get only $50,000 instead of $2.4 million. You will not get writer’s cramp adding MK or M10 to your ticket.

Now that we have the keno crayon in hand and the M10 or MK written on the ticket, how do we do the ways? The simplest and cheapest is just to have a group of 8-1-1, giving you the Mega10 ten-spot, two Megakeno 9-spots, and a MegaKeno 8-spot, which at $1.50 per way (required) would cost you $6 per ticket.

The shortcoming is you would have to hit the 8 solid to get that big win. Thus, let’s split up the ticket a little differently so you would not have to hit such a large group solid to get that big win. Play 3-3-2-1-1 and you get some heavy action, albeit costing more due to more ways. You have a 10, two 9’s, and two 8’s with a total ticket cost of $7.50.

Now if you want to add the 7s, 6s and 5s the ticket cost does jump a lot, but here is an easy suggestion to still get a decent pay should you hit 7, 6, or 5 solid. I will be using the El Cortez as the example as their 40-cent rate has a good return for low level. Play the 8, 9, 10 for $1.50 per way as a Mega10, MegaKeno ticket, marking it accordingly. Play the 7’s, 6’s, 5’s as a separate ticket.

Mark this ticket using the same 10 numbers and grouping it the same way as your Mega tickets – 3-3-2-1-1, playing the 7’s, 6’s, 5’s as the 8’s and up are covered in your other Mega ticket. Now, one caution. If the 7, 6 or 5 progressive is high in your opinion, do play them as MegaKeno. But if they are not high just play the 40-cent rate for these lower number of spots.

A 3-3-2-1-1 gives you four 7’s, five 6’s and four 5’s. Playing at 40 cents a way this ticket will cost you $5.20. Playing at 80 cents will cost $10.40. Hit a 5, 6 or 7 solid and you have a great day. At 40 cents a 5 pays $400, a 6 is $1,000 and a 7 gets $3,500. Double all pays if playing 80 cents a way.

Keep in mind you will also have all kinds of partial pays as well for all the lesser hits. That’s the beauty. Way tickets are the best way to play to increase your chances, albeit at greater cost.

The game can be followed on keno boards throughout the casino. The specific MegaKeno progressive amounts are at megakeno.com.

To increase your chances for $2.4 million-plus as well, play more numbers and ways. Play MegaKeno ticket groups of 2-2-2-2-2-2, giving you six ways to hit a 10, and if you can afford it 15 to hit the 8.

And believe it or not, some still think keno is just a boring lottery game. That is an issue for them. I would rather go for the $2.4 million, wouldn’t you?
