The Green Bay Packers begin their 2022 NFL playoff journey as a 6-point favorite over the visiting San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night at Lambeau Field.
The Packers opened as -5.5 chalk, but the number had climbed to -6 across the sports betting landscape including at Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel, and PointsBet as of Wednesday afternoon.

The skinny: Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers, the league’s reigning MVP, will be looking for his first playoff win in four tries against San Francisco when the teams meet at frigid Lambeau Field, where the forecast as of Wednesday called for temps in the low teens with the wind chill near zero. No snow, though.
Facts: Through 2001, the Packers were 13-0 at home in the playoffs (Milwaukee or Green Bay). But since then they’ve gone only 7-6, including a 23-20 loss to the 49ers in the wild-card round eight seasons ago with the wind chill at -10.
This is a rematch of their Week 3 game in San Francisco, where the Packers won 30-28 as a 3-point dog after blowing a 17-0 lead. Rodgers targeted favorite receiver Davante Adams a season-high 18 times for 132 yards and a score.
The sixth-seeded 49ers, the only wild card left in the tournament, had 169 rushing yards in their win over Dallas on Sunday. But QB Jimmy Garoppolo now not only has a thumb issue on his passing hand but a dinged shoulder, too. He didn’t downplay the fact that it affected his play in the second half.
No. 1 NFC seed Green Bay is catching SF off a short week. Dating to the invention of the wild-card round in 1978, teams are 9-26 when playing on short rest vs. a team off a bye or on normal rest, and 17-18 ATS.
However, teams off a bye have gone one-and-done 10 times since 2010, including sixth-seeded Green Bay’s 48-21 win over No. 1 Atlanta that season. The Packers are coming off their fourth perfect home regular season this century. In 2002 and 2011, though, Green Bay lost at home in the playoffs.

Analysis: The 49ers are heralded for having physical line play, led offensively by OLT Trent Williams and on defense by Nick Bosa and LB Fred Warner. But Bosa (concussion protocol) and Warner (ankle), the team’s defensive ring master, are questionable, although coach Kyle Shanahan said he is optimistic both will be ready for this one.
They better be against a well-rested Packers’ offensive line that got OLT Davis Bakhtiari back in Week 18 after his major knee injury. He didn’t practice early this week and his status is questionable, but the Packers say they are just being overly cautious.
Under normal circumstances, the 49ers would rate the edge but with their star defenders somewhat iffy, and with Garoppolo wrestling with multiple injuries and playing in a deep freeze, it’s not worth the gamble. If San Francisco is forced to insert rookie QB Trey Lance, it could be a replay of Kyler Murray’s awful performance for Arizona in his first playoff experience on Monday.
