San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Betting News
The San Francisco 49ers enter the NFC Championship game riding an impressive 12-game winning streak. The 49ers outplayed the Dallas Cowboys in their divisional round matchup, outlasting them 19-12 in a defensive slugfest. The win improved the 49ers’ record against the spread (ATS) to an impressive 10-2 during their 12-game winning streak.
Rookie Brock Purdy improved his record to 7-0 to begin his young career. Not a bad start for the very last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft! Purdy has done an admirable job leading this 49ers offense after both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo were sidelined with season-ending injuries. And while Purdy has gotten a ton of credit, it’s the 49ers’ defense that has been sensational, holding opponents to less than 20 points in 11 of their last 12 games. They’ll be put to the test in their upcoming matchup with the Eagles, who represent a serious step up in competition.

The Philadelphia Eagles will look to capitalize on one of the best home-field advantages in the NFL on Sunday. The No. 1 seed owned a league-best 14-3 regular season record, due in large part to the incredible play of starting quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagles’ offense averaged more than 28 points per game, good for third in the NFL this season. It’s a multifaceted attack that can beat opponents through the air or on the ground. The Eagles ranked fifth in rushing and ninth in passing yards gained per game. Hurts has 22 passing touchdowns and 13 rushing touchdowns on the year.
While much has been made about the 49ers’ defense, the Eagles currently possess the best overall defense in the NFL. Holding their opponents to less than 300 offensive yards per game led the NFL in defensive yards allowed. And their pass defense has been outstanding, holding opposing quarterbacks to just 180 passing yards per game. That was the best pass defense in the NFL by a considerable margin and will be a brutal test for Purdy and the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Injury Update
Both 49ers running backs, stars Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell, are considered day-to-day with minor injuries. McCaffrey is dealing with a calf contusion, while Mitchell nurses a sore groin sustained in the 49ers’ win against the Cowboys. Head coach Kyle Shanahan was quick to snuff the rumor flames and said he expects both players to suit up against the Eagles on Sunday.
As for the Eagles, A.J. Brown has been listed as questionable for the NFC Championship game. The wide receiver tweaked his hip in the divisional round against the Giants and will be a game-time decision.
Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox has also been listed as questionable.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Prediction
As of this writing, bettors are backing the Eagles in the NFC Championship. The No. 1 seed is getting more than 65% of the tickets but a staggering 91% of the money.
This should be an outstanding football game. While the NFC has been the noticeably weaker conference, the two clear-cut best teams found their way to the championship game. Both the 49ers and Eagles rank inside the top five in offense and defense, so there’s no major advantage for either team on either side of the ball. The difference in this matchup will come down to which quarterback can perform under pressure, and my money is on Hurts.
The Cinderella story is a lot of fun, and Purdy has performed admirably in his first seven starts, but take a look at the list of teams he’s beaten: the Buccaneers, Raiders, Cardinals, Commanders, Seahawks (twice), and Cowboys. Four of those six teams rank in the bottom ten of NFL defenses, and only the Cowboys ranked inside the top half of NFL defenses. And which team gave Purdy the biggest headache? Bingo. The Cowboys. Purdy mustered only 214 passing yards and zero touchdowns against Dallas. He also got extremely fortunate, as Dallas dropped at least three interceptions.
Purdy now has to beat the NFL’s best team in one of the loudest stadiums in sports. He won’t get away with sloppy passes like he did against Dallas, as the Eagles own the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL.
Lay the short number with the Eagles.
The Pick: Philadelphia Eagles (- 2.5)
