Half of the 2023 NFL season is in the books, so there’s no better time than now to put down some wagers. In Week 10, the San Francisco 49ers and the Jacksonville Jaguars will face off in Duval. The Niners come into this matchup as three-point favorites on the road.

It’s tough to bet against Trevor Lawrence. He’s proven he can lead his team to wins at home, on the road, and across the Pond. But it’s also tough to bet against quarterback whisperer Kyle Shanahan. As head coach of San Francisco, Shanahan has shown that he can turn a desperate QB situation into a winning one. He’ll need to work that magic Sunday, so the Niners don’t turn their three-game losing skid into four.

49ers vs. Jaguars Analysis and Prediction

Has Brock Purdy finally turned into a pumpkin or are there still more chapters left in Mr. Irrelevant’s Cinderella story? Based on the current odds, the clock hasn’t struck midnight yet. Despite having lost its last three, San Francisco at is third on the board to win the Super Bowl. But the 49ers are facing a Jacksonville team that hasn’t lost a game since Week 3.

Who gets the edge in Week 10? Let’s look first at San Francisco.

The 49ers’ unfortunate losing streak can be blamed at least partially on injuries. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been sidelined since Week 6 as a result of a hairline fracture and tackle Trent Williams has missed the squad’s last two matchups nursing an ankle injury. San Fran likely gets those two starters back into the lineup this Sunday, and they’ve got other key pieces like Chase Young, Nick Bosa, and Christian McCaffrey.

When a stacked team like that is healthy, it’s almost — pun intended — irrelevant who’s playing the quarterback position. However, for all of Purdy’s miscues (especially over the last three games), he’s still got more than 2,000 passing yards under his belt this season.

Like their opponent, the Jags are coming off a bye. Before that bye, Duval was riding the momentum of a five-game winning streak. Here’s something important to note, though: two of those wins came against sub-.500 teams in Atlanta and Indianapolis, and one came against a Saints team that’s probably not as good as their 5-4 SU record suggests.

To the Jags’ credit, they’ve got the 10th-ranked scoring offense in the league and the eighth-ranked scoring defense. They’re also the third-least penalized team in the NFL heading into Week 10.

If Jacksonville was facing a less complete team coming off the bye, picking the Jags to win and cover at home would be a no-brainer. But instead, they get the Niners — a team desperate for a get-right win that just got a little scarier because they’re a little healthier.

Prediction

  • Niners -3 (Best Live Odds: )
  • Niners -1.5 1st Half (Best Live Odds: )
  • Deebo Samuel +160 Anytime Touchdown Scorer (Best Live Odds: )
