With the start of college football season approaching, it is time to break down conference championship odds and give our best predictions. Here, we look at 2023 ACC Championship odds and offer a pick to win the conference.
The defending ACC Champion Clemson Tigers (+130, Caesars Sportsbook) are favored across all the top sports betting apps to win their eighth conference title in the last nine years. However, an upstart Florida State (+185, FanDuel) is right behind them in odds to win the ACC, with North Carolina (+900, BetMGM) and Louisville (+1000, DraftKings) sitting behind them.
The “Magnificent 7” teams — Florida State, Miami, Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia, NC State, and Virginia Tech — have all explored leaving the conference. This means that 2023 could be one of the last seasons where the ACC is a power conference, but for now, this is still a deep league.

Betting Favorites to Win ACC Championship
With a 39-10 victory over North Carolina in last season’s ACC Championship Game, Clemson reintroduced itself as the premier program in the conference, despite all the questions surrounding the quarterback room. Head coach Dabo Swinney still is recruiting at a high level and has won 10+ games in 12 straight seasons.
Even though Clemson is favored again this season, Florida State had a massive year in Mike Norvell‘s third season as the Seminoles’ head coach. They won 10 games for the first time since 2016, including a big victory over LSU at the beginning of the year, and they are returning one of the best players in the country in quarterback Jordan Travis.
Florida State and Clemson are far ahead of the rest of the field on the ACC Championship odds board, but we have seen surprise teams win this conference. In 2021, the Pitt Panthers won the ACC Championship as a massive 66-to-1 underdog entering the season.
Here, we look deeper at the top-three favorites to win the ACC Championship and give our best prediction.

Clemson Tigers (+155, DraftKings)
The ACC has run through Swinney’s program for damn near a decade, but we may have entered the beginning of the end. His long-time coordinators have left for head coaching gigs, and this team did not have the same feel last year as in previous seasons, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
With Cade Klubnik taking over the starting role full-time, the Tigers have more juice entering this season. However, the offensive line and skill rooms are pretty bare, and Klubnik did not overly impress in his play last season. In 10 games last year, Klubnik completed only 61% of his passes for 697 yards and two touchdowns to three interceptions.
Being a full-time starter should help him get into a groove, but he will need to lead an uninspiring offense. Luckily, the defense is loaded once again. While Clemson does not feel like the National Championship contender it was a few seasons ago, the Tigers are in the mix to win another ACC Championship.
Florida State Seminoles (+185, FanDuel)
Entering last season, the Norvell era in Tallahassee was reaching a boiling point after two-straight seasons without qualifying for a bowl game. However, Norvell recruited well and attacked the transfer portal during those years, and as a result, we got a 10-win season last year and high expectations this season.
With Travis at quarterback and a skill room that includes running back Trey Benson and receivers such as Johnny Wilson and Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman, this offense has a lot of upside. They have also brought in a few offensive-line transfers and South Carolina tight end Jaheim Bell to fill some holes.
However, the best player on the team is on the other side of the ball, edge rusher Jared Verse. In his first season with the Noles, after transferring from Albany, Verse put up nine sacks last season and had a monster game against Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl. Many already proclaim him as a top-10 pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
This is a well-rounded team, and although Clemson has them beat in odds to win the ACC Championship, Florida State is knocking at the door and very well may win it this season.
North Carolina Tarheels (+1200, Ceasers Sportsbook)
The drop-off from the top two teams to North Carolina is pretty significant, but the Tar Heels have a case to win the ACC. Not only are they one of the most experienced teams in the country, but they arguably have the best quarterback as well in Drake Maye.
They started last season 9-1 and looked like they could backdoor a College Football Playoff spot. Unfortunately, the wheels fell off the bus hard, as they lost their last four games, including a heartbreaker in the Holiday Bowl against Oregon.
North Carolina attacked the transfer portal, adding Devontez Walker and Nate McCollum to beef up a receiver room that lost Josh Downs to the NFL. UNC also brought in some help on the offensive line, which was a must, as Maye was sacked 40 times last season.
The defense is returning eight starters, which may or may not be good. This unit allowed 30.8 points per game last season, which was last in the ACC, and allowed some pretty bad offenses to move the ball. A group with a full year of experience and tape returning could mean some progression from the defense, but the Heels have a lot of work to do if they want to dethrone Clemson or Florida State.
2023 ACC Championship Prediction
Florida State Seminoles (+185, FanDuel)
Although Clemson has a track record of dominance in the ACC, Florida State is a really talented team riding a ton of momentum from last season. The Seminoles bring back a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, and they did a fantastic job in the transfer portal, beefing up the skill room and adding one of the top corners in the country in Fentrell Cypress from Virginia.
They are not quite as deep as Clemson on defense, but they have the better players. The offense has the potential to be one of — if not — the best unit in the country, depending on how the offensive line transfers work out.
While they need to improve against the run, this is among the deepest teams in football. Not only are they in a good spot to win the ACC, but they can run through the schedule and make a trip to the College Football Playoff for the first time since Jameis Winston took the Noles to the CFP in its first year (2015).
Outside of road games against Clemson and Florida and a neutral-site game against LSU to open the season, Florida State got pretty lucky with its schedule.
