North Carolina Enters Final Game in Driver’s Seat

North Carolina has a one-game lead on Duke atop the ACC, as of March 7.

The Heels — who are currently — are the clear favorites.

Oddsmakers see the Blue Devils as heavy underdogs.

If the Tar Heels beat the Blue Devils on March 9, they’ll win the regular season outright. If Duke wins, the two will split a share of the regular season championship.

Case for North Carolina to Win 2023-24 ACC Regular Season Championship

Through late January, UNC looked well on its way to not just winning the conference championship but running away with it. A brief stumble midway through conference play opened the door for Duke and the rest of the ACC, but North Carolina has won its last five to guarantee at least a share of first place.

UNC boasts two veteran All-ACC-caliber players in guard RJ Davis and big man Armando Bacot, and transfer Harrison Ingram has been everything Carolina fans hoped he would be.

With four players averaging double-figures and a dynamic freshman point guard in Elliot Cadeau, UNC is poised for its first ACC championship (regular season or tournament) under coach Hubert Davis.

Case for Duke to Win 2023-24 ACC Regular Season Championship

Anyone who watched Duke struggle from start to finish in Chapel Hill in early February might have doubts about this team’s ability to win the title at UNC’s expense, but Duke is playing its best ball at the right time. With wins in eight of its last nine, Duke has been dominant, but needs a win over the Heels on Saturday to finish the regular season tied with Carolina atop the ACC standings.
