Rose Bowl Passing Odds
Alabama QB Jalen Milroe had a standout season with 2,718 passing yards and 23 touchdown passes. He is favored to throw for nearly 200 yards, but there is value on betting Milroe to throw for multiple TDs , something he’s done in seven of his past eight games and nine games overall. Aside from the Crimson Tide fighting for the national championship, one has to think this Katy, TX native will be extra motivated to get to Houston and potentially lift the trophy in front of his family.
Michigan QB JJ McCarthy has 2,630 passing yards with 19 touchdowns, and that’s without crossing the 150-yard mark in his past four games. More surprising is that he only threw for one touchdown in his past five appearances. He is certainly capable of throwing for over 200 yards a game, which he did in seven of his first nine, but will he be asked to throw it against a notoriously defensive Alabama side? Throwing for multiple TDs may not be worth the risk considering the payout , also considering he last did it as far back as October.
Rose Bowl Rushing Odds
Jalen Milroe isn’t just a passing machine because his 12 rushing touchdowns, leading all Alabama players, make him a favorite to score one himself. If he does go into the end zone, which he has done in five games, he is a good bet to get in more than once and that would pay handsomely .
Jase McClellan is Alabama’s rushing leader with 803 yards and second-most scorer through the ground with six TDs. He is plus odds to score and has come good in three of the last five games.
If you’re shopping Crimson Tide scorers, Roydell Williams and Justice Haynes are other running backs to have in mind.
Michigan Senior RB Blake Corum was a beast on the ground with 1,028 yards and 24 touchdowns. There was not a game this season when Corum was not in the end zone and that’s why he’s a big favorite to score. On nine occasions, he has scored at least twice and in two games has delivered three TDs . The value play on him is if he scores first , provided the Wolverines can either get the ball first or keep Alabama from scoring early.
As far as rushing yards, Donovan Edwards and perhaps Benjamin Hall are the names to shop for Big Blue. Those may be longshots compared to Corum. Edwards and McCarthy each follow Corum with three touchdowns apiece with WR Semaj Morgan finding the end zone twice through the running game.
Rose Bowl Receiving Odds
Jermaine Burton is Alabama’s prime receiving target with 777 yards and eight TDs. He’s at a good price to score and even more if he gets the first touchdown of the game. Burton has caught a touchdown in three consecutive games and five of the last seven.
Isaiah Bond is next in line with four touchdowns for ‘Bama and the leader in yards in four games. TE Amari Niblack also has four TDs for the Crimson Tide. WR Kobe Prentice has two TD catches but has been the leading receiver in three games this season.
Roman Wilson has been the main man for Michigan with 662 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He has a nice price to score due to only entering the end zone once in the last four games.
TE Colston Loveland and WR Cornelius Johnson have gotten their fair share of the ball if you’re shopping for O/U in receiving yards. Loveland is Michigan’s second-most scorer through the air with four TDs.
Alabama vs. Michigan Analysis and Prediction
Two of the most talented rosters in the nation are backed by two of the most highly regarded coaches in college football.
One sideline will be Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, who despite the continuous links to an NFL return and the recent sign-stealing scandal, has the Wolverines in a third consecutive College Football Playoff semifinal.
On the other sideline is Alabama’s Nick Saban, considered by some as arguably the best coach in the history of college football for his seven national championships. Saban can claim his seventh crown with Alabama and 19th overall for the Crimson Tide after defeating Georgia in the SEC title game.
The small spread makes this a tough choice for any bettor. If you’re betting ‘Bama, you’re likely thinking of going straight for the moneyline. Will this be Michigan’s first loss of the year or will Harbaugh’s boys finally get over the hump?
