This week, I took my annual trip to Arizona to catch some spring training baseball.

When I take road trips that are close to Las Vegas I like to write about a restaurant or two that I might’ve found on my journey. The place I found was totally by accident, as we were going to a different restaurant. But as we were driving down the road to the other restaurant, one of my friends said, “Look, that’s a Steelers bar.”

Well that’s all I had to hear and I quickly took a hard left into the parking lot. The place was called Harold’s Corral located at 6895 E. Cave Creek Road in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Let’s start with the obvious as Harold’s Corral being a Steeler bar and me being from Pittsburgh, you know I was going to like the place. They actually refer to themselves as Heinz Field West. The place is loaded with Steelers memorabilia but let’s get to the food.

We came in for lunch and I ordered chicken wings and some French Onion soup. The wings were cooked just the way I like them, crispy but not overdone. The soup was very good as well. My friends had the Stuffed Banana Pepper with sausage. It was spicy but very good. Grandma’s meatballs were an excellent appetizer as well.

The reason everyone had appetizers was our waitress Mellissa, who was super sweet told us they had all-you-can-eat Ribs ‘n’ Chicken for $19.95 every Thursday night. We quickly made an executive decision and decided that we would come back for dinner and to listen to the band.

The special came with two sides and you had your choice of baby back ribs or beef ribs. It was a great deal for $19.95. All of their steaks are hand-cut in-house. I’ll be trying those on my next visit.

Now here’s where Harold’s Corral takes a surprising twist. In the back of the bar there is another section loaded with TV’s and all of the TV’s had horse racing on them. It was an OTB (Off Track Betting) facility.

Did I die and just go to heaven? Harold’s Corral is a country bar that’s a Steeler bar with good food and I can bet on the horses. What more could I ask for?

If you make the trip to Phoenix to catch some Spring Training games I highly recommend checking out Harold’s Corral. It truly does have something for everyone. I give Harold’s Corral 3.75 forks.
