Every once in a while I find a new place that I think to myself, do I really want to share this one? I mean, I like this place and I don’t want to have to wait to get in when they are sold out for the night. Well, in the end the loyal readers of my column are more important and I decide to share as I always end up doing.

This week we went to My Mother’s House Italian Restaurant located at 9320 Sun City Blvd., located in Summerlin. It’s worth the drive. I went twice in a five day period. That’s how much I liked it.

When we arrived the owner’s wife Laura, who is also a chef, greeted us and took us to our table. Our waitress took our drink orders, and since it was our first time here I always like to ask the waiter or waitress what’s their favorite items on the menu. Our waitress said, “Wait, I’ll get my grandpa to tell you what’s good.”

Well, Grandpa was the owner and chef so talk about getting it straight from the horse’s mouth. He selected the Lasagna for my wife and the Chicken Marsala for me. He wanted us to try his meatballs and had his granddaughter get us each a meatball as an appetizer. They were outstanding as were both of our dinners. They bring you, compliments of the chef, marinated olives and peppers and other vegetables along with some of the best garlic bread I’ve had.

My Mother’s House is a smaller intimate setting. The food, the live entertainment and most of all the owner, Chef Mike, is quite the character in the best possible way. He even grabs the mic and belts out a Frank Sinatra tune with the band. Pure enjoyment and a delight.

On my second visit I had the Jumbo Shrimp Scampi over Linguine, which was excellent as the scampi sauce was spot on. We also had the Linguine Alfredo and Gnocchi served with meatballs and sausage.

Save room for dessert as they have cannoli and cheesecake. They have live entertainment on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday each week. My Mother’s House Italian Restaurant has a great family atmosphere. They also offer several dishes family style where you can get a large entrée platter.

The regular entrée portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable with most under $20 and most of the family platters under $30. All of the dishes come with salad and garlic bread. I give the My Mother’s House Italian Restaurant a rating of 3.75 forks.
