Week 2 of the NFL season kicks off in the city of Brotherly Love as the Philadelphia Eagles host the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football. Bettors can take advantage of the TNF odds with some plus-money player props, including the best Vikings vs. Eagles anytime touchdown props.
The Eagles started the season with a close win in New England, while the Vikings were defeated by Tampa Bay during Week 1. Last season, the Vikings won 11 one-score games, which is likely not a sustainable way to win games, and a loss to one of the worst projected teams in the NFL is alarming. While Philadelphia barely escaped New England with a win, they started the game hot, going up 16-0 in the first quarter.
This has all the makings of an exciting game, as we have two explosive offenses and a lot of playmakers on both sides. If you are looking for a bet with some extra value, we have got you covered as we will break down our two favorite Vikings vs. Eagles anytime TD scorer picks.

T.J. Hockenson
During the offseason, Minnesota made T.J. Hockenson the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. While he is a really good player, the Vikings are paying him based on a 10-game sample size after acquiring him from the Lions last season. Usually, those types of deals do not work, but Hockenson was a big part of this offense down the stretch, and they will need him tonight.
In 10 games last season, Hockenson had 86 targets, 2x more than he received with the Lions in 2022 (43) in three fewer games. His yards per reception plummeted to 8.7 with Minnesota, but he is not asked to do as much with the Vikings.
This is a loaded receiver room with Justin Jefferson and rookie Jordan Addison, who caught a touchdown last week. Those two will be more critical to this team’s success in 2023, but Hockenson has a real advantage tonight.
Minnesota’s offensive line is not that great, and they will be without starting center Garrett Bradbury, and left tackle Christian Darrisaw is listed as questionable. This means that the Eagles’ front seven, which is one of, if not the best, in the NFL, will get a lot of pressure on Kirk Cousins. This will not allow the routes from Jefferson or Addison to develop as they normally would, and it will open up the middle of the field, where Hockenson can really go off.
Although he did not score last week and only had 35 yards perceiving, Hockenson caught eight passes on nine targets. For his career, when Hockenson has at least nine targets, he has scored eight touchdowns.
DeVonta Smith
Last season, DeVonta Smith broke out in a big way, and after Week 1, he looks ready to replicate his performance from 2022. While he only had 47 receiving yards and seven receptions, he also had a touchdown.
Even though the Eagles are a run-first team, especially with the depth they have at running back and one of the best mobile quarterbacks in Jalen Hurts, Minnesota has a horrible pass defense. The run-stop is also mediocre, which means Philadelphia will look to pound the rock as much as possible, but they looked improved against Tampa last week.
In his first two seasons in the NFL, Smith had 240 targets in 34 games played. Last week, Smith had 10 targets, but the Patriots have one of the better secondaries in football, and Smith was still able to find the endzone. If Minnesota’s improved rush defense shows up tonight, look for the Eagles to put the ball in the air and try and beat a weak secondary deep.
As long as Smith continues to receive his targets, he should be in an excellent spot to find paydirt against the Vikings’ secondary.
