Undefeated Arsenal welcomes Manchester City to the Emirates in what could be an early title decider in the Premier League. Ahead of this Matchweek 8 encounter, we look at Arsenal vs. Man City odds and props and offer a few betting tips for Sunday’s marquee encounter.

The top two teams from last season meet for the first time in the 2023-24 Premier League season. Separated by five points, it was Manchester City who finished the season as champions and look to repeat, while Arsenal is still searching for its first league title since 2003–04.

Betting Tips

Which Team Will Score First?

The two sides last faced off prior to the start of the season in the FA Community Shield match. Man City scored first in that encounter but a stoppage-time goal forced penalty kicks and the title for Arsenal.

The Gunners have gotten the game’s first goal in five of its seven league matches so far. The Citizens have also struck first in five of their seven Premier League matches but unlike Arsenal, City lost one of those encounters.

Will Both Teams Score in Both Halves?

Arsenal have only scored on both sides of halftime on three occasions this season, one aided by an own goal. Man City has only scored in both halves in two of its matches this season. Perhaps this is the exception but it looks unlikely that both score in each half.

Will There Be a Penalty Kick?

Arsenal have scored five goals this season from the penalty spot, including two in its previous league match, with Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz all converting. Manchester City has had three penalty kicks this season with Erling Haaland the designated taker, scoring twice and missing the other.

Anytime Goalscorer

Earling Haaland leads the league with 8 goals and has scored in five of Man City’s seven league matches. Other goalscorers for the Citizens have been Rodri, Julian Alvarez, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden.

Bukayo Saka leads the way with four goals for Arsenal but the Gunners have also seen the back of the net thanks to Eddie Nketiah, Martin Ødegaard, Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz, and Ben White.

First Goalscorer

Nketiah, Ødegaard, Trossard, and Saka are the players who have scored first in a match involving Arsenal. Haaland, Alvarez, and Foden have been the first goalscorers in matches where Man City have taken the lead first.

Player To Score Two or More

Haaland will be the popular target to score more than once as he’s done on two occasions this season. He had a brace in the team’s opening match against Burnley and a hat-trick last month against Fulham. A missed penalty was the difference in a brace against Sheffield United, and for the reason of being City’s designated penalty taker, Haaland could get two against Arsenal. Alvarez had a brace for City in the UEFA Champions League against Red Star Belgrade and would be another choice for this category.

The Gunners have yet to see a player score more than once in PL action this season. Gabriel Jesus may be one to look at as he has the talent for it and could be extra motivated in facing his former club.

Arsenal vs. Man City Prediction

Unless we see a different side of Arsenal, this is likely a Man City win. These are the types of matches that Haaland was brought in to win and should see the back of the net.

The pressure is on Arsenal as the home side and especially for that late-season collapse last year where they allowed Man City back into the Premier League title race. It’s also teacher against pupil as Mikel Arteta faces mentor Pep Guardiola in the tactical battle.

This one could be decided by one goal given that both teams are still early in the season and not as well-oiled as they would be a few months further down the road. This could be one of the games of the season depending on what ends up being decided here.
