Saturday’s Aston Villa vs. Newcastle match-up at Villa Park features two of the hottest teams in the Premier League. While neither sixth-place Villa nor third-place Newcastle are contenders to win the league, they’re well-positioned for the EPL’s automatic Champions League and Europa League slots.

In Gaming Today’s breakdown of Aston Villa vs. Newcastle odds, props, and prediction, we analyze a clash between two teams playing their best soccer at the perfect time. Newcastle are on a streak of five consecutive wins in the Premier League, while Villa have six wins and a draw in their last seven EPL matches, dating back to Feb. 25, including four wins in a row.

Newcastle won 4-0 in these teams’ previous meeting on Oct. 29, 2022, in a match that was tied 0-0 throughout the first half. But after a successful PK by Callum Wilson just before the halftime whistle, Newcastle added three more goals by the 70th minute for the one-sided result.

Aston Villa Roster, Injuries, and Betting News

Aston Villa are quietly ahead of Brighton and Liverpool in the table, but they’re a huge long shot (+4000 on DraftKings) to finish top-4.

Oddsmakers don’t consider them a viable top-6 contender (which would guarantee a spot in the 2023-24 Europa League), either. On DraftKings, Villa are +650 in that race, well behind Liverpool (-200) and Brighton (-110).

There’s no denying their current form, though. Villa have allowed just two goals in their last seven Premier League matches to move up from mid-table to top-6 contention.

The story of the season has been the boost they’ve gotten since sacking Manager Steven Gerrard in October and bringing in Unai Emery from Villarreal. Emery has led the team to 11 wins in 18 matches since replacing Gerrard.

Villa’s biggest star, in terms of name recognition, is probably Argentine keeper Emiliano Martinez, who helped his country win the World Cup in December.

Up top, this team’s biggest threat has been English forward Ollie Watkins (12 goals and 5 assists). Aston Villa have also gotten solid production from Danny Ings and Emi Buendia.

Injuries

Villa are not expected to have two key players: defender Matty Cash and midfielder Boubacar Kamara. They’ll also be without Philippe Coutinho, who has spent most of the season in a reserve role.

Newcastle Roster, Injuries, and Betting News

After dropping back-to-back matches (just their second and third losses of the year) to Liverpool on Feb. 18 and Manchester City on March 4, Newcastle have been sharp over the last month. With five wins in a row since the City loss, including a dominant 2-0 victory over Manchester United, Newcastle have established themselves as heavy favorites to finish top-4 in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s team has responded impressively from a stretch of eight games in which they went 1-5-2 from Dec. 31-March 4, with just three goals scored. But they’ve scored 13 times during the ongoing winning streak, including five goals from Alexander Isak, who’s been a difference-maker.

Isak, Miguel Almiron, Joelinton, and Callum Wilson lead a balanced attack in front of star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and a back line that has allowed a league-low 21 goals.

Injuries

Almiron, his team’s top scorer with 11 goals in 24 Premier League starts, could return from his thigh injury next week against Tottenham, but is not expected to play against Villa. Newcastle will also be missing winger Allan Saint-Maximin and right back Emil Krafth.

Aston Villa vs. Newcastle Prediction: Aston Villa 0, Newcastle 1

Both teams are playing so well right now that it’s hard to imagine either losing. Newcastle, however, have been too steady all season to pick against them — even at Villa Park.

The price is skewed more in favor of Newcastle than it should be, and a draw (+245 on DraftKings) should not surprise anyone, especially considering these teams have drawn a total of 16 of the 59 matches they’ve played this season.

I lean toward Newcastle given their blowout win in their previous match against Aston Villa and the fact that Villa have struggled against top EPL teams since December, with losses to Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal by a combined score of 10-4.

While Newcastle feel like the likely winner (assuming the match doesn’t end in a draw), Double Chance – Aston Villa or Tie offers good value at -135 on DraftKings.

Here are a few other bets available at DraftKings that are worth checking out:

  • Both Teams To Score – No (+105)
  • Halftime/Fulltime – Newcastle/Newcastle (+220)
