It’s been a while since we wrote about a burger place, and this week after shooting videos for my website the guys and I went out to lunch at the Bar Code Burger Bar (1590 E. Flamingo Road)

The Code underwent a major face lift several months ago and I was quite impressed with the new look. There are plenty of TV’s located throughout the bar for watching all the action. Given their name we had to try a burger. I went with the Degenerate. How could I not order a burger with that name?

It came with American cheese, fried egg, fried onions, bacon, code sauce and fresh cut fries. The burger was excellent and cooked perfectly. The fresh cut fries were very good as well. The total came to $12.95, which was well worth it compared to many of the burger places located on the Strip that charge $14 or more for just the burger.

One of my buddies tried the BBQ Big Burger made with smoked Boston butt, apple wood bacon, Vermont white cheddar and a Blueberry BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce had just a hint of Blueberry in it and my friend seemed to enjoy the combination. The burger and fries were $10.95.

For starters we tried an order of their fried pickles or as they call them, Pickle Schnitzels. These were very good as they were lightly battered and fried to a golden crispness.

What made them so good was the breading as it was light but very flavorful. I hate when the breading dominates the food and all you taste is breading. I want the breading to compliment the food not dominate it, and these were perfect.

Bar Code Burger Bar has a great Happy Hour from 3 to 6 p.m., and a late night Happy Hour from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

During Happy Hour well drinks are $3, PBR is $2, draft beer is $3 and shots of Jameson, Fireball and Jagermeister are $4. Also, items from their Bites menu are half off. This includes their Bangin Wings for $5.50, Chicken Strippers for $4.50, Pickle Schnitzels for $2.95 and Onion Strings of Fire for $3.50, just to name a few.

They really did a nice job with the new look of the Bar, making it a nice place to hang out with 20 HD TV’s, shuffleboard, a pool table, beer pong and corn hole. They also have an interactive trivia game to play with your friends and against other members.

It’s really a cool place to hang out with a local neighborhood bar feel yet just a few minutes from the Strip. Add all of that to really good food and it makes Bar Code Burger Bar a place I’ll be back to real soon. I give it 3.75 Forks.
