Morning-line odds are simply a prediction by the track handicapper of what each horse’s price will be. They have no bearing on the odds a bettor ultimately receives on a bet. With pari-mutuel wagering, odds are determined by the amount of money bet on each entry, and closing odds are the prices at which each bet is effective.

Odds for Belmont Stakes’ Top Contenders

This should be a competitive race with horse racing’s best trainers squarely in the spotlight. Todd Pletcher, Brad Cox, and Bob Baffert all have reasons to be optimistic heading into Saturday’s marathon 1 1/2-mile race at Belmont Park. Known as the “Test of the Champion,” the Belmont Stakes owns the distinction of being the longest Triple Crown race.

Forte (5-2)

A notable scratch at this year’s Kentucky Derby due to a foot injury, Forte was also the morning-line favorite in this year’s “Run for the Roses” at 4-1.

Forte is unbeaten in his only two starts as a 3-year-old. Both of those victories came at Gulfstream Park, first in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes and then the Grade 1 Florida Derby.

Forte capped his 2-year-old campaign by winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile race at Keeneland with Ortiz aboard.

Tapit Trice (3-1)

As a stablemate to Forte, Tapit Trice gives Pletcher a solid second option to win the Belmont Stakes. Tapit Trice has four wins in six career starts. With Luis Suez aboard, Tapit Trice surged to victory in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes in April at Keeneland. He then finished seventh in the Kentucky Derby.

Angel of Empire (7-2)

Angel of Empire is one of a race-high three entries in the Belmont Stakes for trainer Brad Cox. Flavien Prat rode Angle of Empire to a third-place finish his last time out in the Kentucky Derby.

Angel of Empire’s graded stakes victories this year include the Arkansas Derby (G1), and Risen Star (G2).

National Treasure (5-1)

National Treasure gave Baffert a record-breaking eighth Preakness Stakes victory at Pimlico Race Course. National Treasure entered the Preakness with just one victory in five career starts. He paid $7.80 for the win.

National Treasure is Baffert’s only runner in the Belmont. The last time Baffert entered a horse in the Belmont Stakes was 2018. Justify won the Belmont and Triple Crown that year.

Hit Show (10-1)

Also trained by Cox, Hit Show finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby in his most recent start. The 3-year-old colt has three career victories in six career starts, but only one in graded stakes competition. That came in the Grade 3 Withers Stakes in February at Aqueduct.

Red Route One (15-1)

Trainer Steve Asmussen is sending only Red Route One out in the Belmont Stakes after a fourth-place finish in the Preakness. Prior to that, Joel Rosario rode Red Route One to his first stakes win in April’s Bath House Row Stakes at Oaklawn.

Rosario gets the mount again for the Belmont Stakes.
